University of Saskatchewan

The University of Saskatchewan chapter of AIMSS initially started off in 2019 as the Technology in Medicine Club with the goal of linking engineering, computer science, and business students with medical students to create and innovate medical tech ideas. In 2020, it joined AIMSS and the focus of the group shifted towards more AI-specific topics. The current goal of the group is to act as the hub for all software that medical students can use to support their learning as well as advancements in the field of medicine that come as a result of technology and AI.

My interest in AI started with an NSERC research term during my undergraduate BSc in Computer Science where we explored the use of machine learning in forecasting populations. With my acceptance into medical school, I hoped to make use of my previous experience which is why I joined AIMSS. My hope as President is to make the USask Chapter of AIMSS a hub for not just AI-related resources but tech resources in general for medical students. There’s a lot of potential with the new advancements in technology in medicine and I hope to make AIMSS be at the forefront of it!

Hi! I'm Lacey, a first-year medical student at the University of Saskatchewan. Before medical school, I completed a BA in psychology from Western University. At 14, I bought my first computer and taught myself to code. Since then, I fell in love with research, specifically in the area of schizophrenia-spectrum disorders. I also enjoy mathematics and chemistry.

I’m a second-year medical student at the University of Saskatchewan and my interest in AI began during my time as a language analyst at a psychology-based consulting company. My team worked to create a database to train AI in language analysis of workplace team dialogues and this experience sparked an interest in the application of AI to medicine, a field with many multidisciplinary teams. As a member of AIMSS, I look forward to engaging with students and fostering an interest in the power of AI in our field!
